Status: Completed

The workshop focuses on the performance driven design methodology to explore how computational tools such as structural simulation can be incorporated into the design process to yield intelligent and informed design outcome. The goal is to create a self-supporting shell, digitally generated by simulating gravity forces. To avoid using any tension cables or a fix baseplate, we will go through various test models, both digital and physical, to come up with a triangulated truss geometry to provide surface tension and strength.
The workshop will combine computational design tools and digital fabrication to explore performance driven design methodology to yield intelligent design outcome. As an architectural concept, we will explore tectonic articulation of form which integrates inherent properties of geometric form, structural properties and material intelligence. To explore these conceptual ideas, we will design and construct a pavilion from lightweight sheet materials such as paper or cardboard to be located in a designated indoor exhibition space.
